Most Recent Edition of Qumran Phylacteries

Reader question: Is there another, perhaps more recent edition of the phylacteries of Qumran besides DJD VI? All the other compilations I have come across so far only ever feature the supposedly more complete manuscripts of the biblical “books,” sometimes mentioning the phylacteries.

Answer: Thanks for your question.  There is no later addition, although there are phylacteries in a few other volumes of DJD and also in Y. Yadin’s publication Tefillin from Qumran.  However, there are some phylacteries that were discovered in the Judean Desert caves and these need to be checked as well.  There is quite a bit of information in E. Tov’s volume on Scribal Practices.
